Malinche

Malinche

Malinche, also referred to as Matlalcueye or Malintzin, is a dormant stratovolcano situated between the Mexican states of Tlaxcala and Puebla. It holds cultural and historical significance, as well as geological interest. Official records list its summit elevation at 4,461 meters (14,636 feet) above sea level; however, more recent GPS-based assessments suggest a slightly lower height, closer to 4,440 meters (14,567 feet). Despite being inactive, La Malinche is a popular destination for hikers and climbers, offering a relatively accessible high-altitude experience and panoramic views of nearby volcanoes like Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The mountain is also part of a national park, which helps protect its diverse ecosystems and supports local ecotourism.
